Sandtray has been used in therapy sessions since the 1940's. It is a type of expressive therapy where "worlds" are created in the sand. Sandtray is used with both adolescents and adults. It is an excellent modality for those struggling with grief or trauma when words are difficult to find or fully process. Even in just touching the sand, clients can feel soothed and healing beyond what we can visibly understand. The Sandtray environment is safe, contained space which is fully in control of the client; the therapist is there offering support in processing the world created.
